Synopsis:

There is so much effort put into increasing the trees coverage in the urban environment to improve the urban living conditions of this densely populated city. Ways of protecting the beautiful trees include proper urban tree management strategy and policy. This seminar will look at the criminal liability of illegal tree felling, examine and identify the facts to determine whether the defence of excuse is genuine and reasonable. The Speaker, Ms. Cherry Hui, who is a practicing Barrister-at-Law and Former Deputy Magistrate, will make reference to the most recent precedent case in which she acted as the prosecuting counsel, a sentence of imprisonment and a fine was imposed by the Deputy Magistrate. Policy makers and tree management professionals will benefit after attending the seminar.
