Junior engineers and experienced management personnel will benefit.

Synopsis for the Training

This training covers one of the fundamental key concepts for railway projects and operation for any modern mass transit railway network, i.e. safety assurance and risk management. As railway is a mass transit system whereby millions of passengers are being transported throughout the network on a 7/24 manner in major cities, regions and countries, it is inevitable that a robust and efficient yet safe transport infrastructure is designed, built, commissioned, operated and maintained over the whole life span of the transportation system. Standards, systems, procedures, processes, tools and trained professionals are essential to ensure such infrastructure works coherently in an integrated manner.

This training course introduces the standards and processes being adopted for the safety management of the design and operation of modern railway networks covering the regulatory functions from the relevant authority to ensure railway safety is assured. In addition, an introduction to the standards and processes being adopted for the risk management of the design and operation of modern railway networks covering the various techniques and tools to be adopted including ETA, FTA, PHA, HAZOP, FMECA, IHA and Hazard Log. Case studies will be discussed so as to give the students an appreciation of the process.
